Stop fighting back, Israel urges Palestinians

In a desperate last-ditch bid for peace in the Middle East, Israel yesterday begged Palestinians to stop fighting back against Israeli army incursions into the West Bank.

Members of the Palestinian peace movement, yesterday

In a radio address broadcast on Israeli and Palestinian state TV stations, premier, Ariel Sharon, made a heartfelt plea for peace. "This deadly struggle must end," he said. "Only if you stop violently resisting our army can we ever hope to resolve this terrible conflict." "I am asking all Palestinians to help us," he continued. "Help us work towards the day when Israelis can live in peace with each other. Please, lie down and die. It's the only way out of this mess."
